Everyday consumers are confronted with advertisements that persuade and manipulate them to purchase products.

  • The visual appeal in this advertisements have the power to produce a desire in their audience.
  • This desire leads to action.

A key formula used in advertising is A.I.D.A.

  • ATTENTION
  • INTEREST
  • DESIRE
  • ACTION

TASK: Where do we see advertisements?

  1. Brainstorm all the places we may see and advert
  2. Now come up with a definition for advertising (remember to consider its main aim).
  3. What is a ‘Target audience’?
  4. Why is it essential this is known before designing an advertisement?
  5. Think of an advertisement that was marketing to you, as an audience group, persuading you to purchase a service/product. Explain how it ‘hooked’ you.
